Renewing and coating a large terrace in Ylöjärvi

In July of 2025 we carried out the renovation of a large concrete terrace in Finland using the Lava 20 anti-slip system. This terrace was about 80 m2 and had an old tile covering which showing age with cracks and other damage from the last few years. The old material was removed before we started work, to give a clean base of concrete.

Installation

The concrete was cleaned of dust and debris, holes were patched and the surface was leveled with grinding. 

After surface preparation was completed, the concrete was primed to seal the surface and prepare it for coating.

Any cracks in the suface were sealed with PU Mastic, Lava Detail 20 and a base coat of regular Lava 20 was installed along with embedded polyester fabric at corners.

The base coat was allowed to dry before the second layer of Lava 20 was applied across the entire surface. 

Finally, clear topcoat was applied while broadcasting pigmented quartz into the wet coating, creating an attractive and slip resistant finish.

Lava 20 allows the concrete to release water vapor but doesn’t permit entry of new water, because of this, the terrace is protected for years to come.
